The League of Women Voters Bay Area (LWVBayArea) is committed to protecting your privacy.

This privacy policy explains the types of information collected by LWV Bay Area’s website, lwvbayarea.org, and how this information is used. We may modify this privacy policy from time to time. We will post the modified policy on our website. The date of the latest revision is at the bottom of this policy.

By using our website, you consent to this privacy policy. If you do not agree to the terms of the privacy policy, do not use our website.

What information we collect

At times, we may ask you to provide personal information to sign up for emails, register for an event, become a member, make a donation, fill out a form, or do another type of activity. We may ask for your name, street address, city, state, zip code, phone number, email address, billing and payment details, supervisor district you live in, and voter registration status. We may also ask members to provide additional personal information in their member application and member surveys. Member surveys are optional and reported in aggregate.

When you visit LWV Bay Area’s website, your browser may automatically send an Internet Protocol (IP) address and other user information, such as the browser you use. LWV Bay Area’s website may use “cookies,” which are small files of data stored on your device that allows your browser to store and recall information about the website.

How your information is used

When you provide personal information to LWV Bay Area, we keep it for our records and use it to provide and improve our programs and services unless and until you ask us to delete the information. We use IP addresses, cookies, and other website user information to manage our website.

LWV Bay Area may also use your personal information to send you communications. These communications include news about the issues we work on, event invitations, and donation tax receipts. We send these communications only to members, volunteers, donors, and other people who opt-in to receive them, or when required by law or regulation. You can opt-out of emails from us by following the unsubscribe instructions in the email you received or by contacting us.

LWV Bay Area sends communications to elected officials, government agencies and their employees, and members of commissions, boards, and other public bodies in order to conduct our work.

LWV Bay Area member names, mailing address, phone numbers, email addresses, and membership details are shared with the League of Women Voters of California, and the League of Women Voters of the U.S. because LWV Bay Area members also become members of those Leagues. You may wish to review the privacy policies of the League of Women Voters of California, and the League of Women Voters of the U.S.

We may store or share your information with third party vendors who use your information to perform certain tasks. For example, we use MailChimp to send our newsletters. These vendors have their own privacy policies and process your information only on LWV Bay Area’s behalf.

We will cooperate with law enforcement, which may include disclosing some of your personal information.

We will not rent, sell, or trade your personal information with other third parties.
